Now when buildings seem to rise high into the Shanghai sky, colliers by Cartier are big business and the BMW’s are queuing on Beijing highways, a new generation rises who dares to ask the question: Is this all there is? At Chinese universities, students are in urgent search for answers to the market-fundamentalist values the dragon is embracing. Through the work of Confucius and Socrates this new generation of neocon nationalist are rediscovering values that seemed to be buried during the Cultural Revolution and state-capitalism of China’s present rulers.
