LINER NOTES - 14/August/2015
For the record, I've never played any of the Dead Rising games, and have never felt much desire to look out for them. My experience with any element of the series begins and ends with Project X Zone featuring the original's main character (and the Fifth King of Vidja Gamin' Memes) Frank West. The only reason I ended up doing this cover of his theme song from the first game was because a friend reminded me about it, not to mention that it was going to be said friend's birthday fairly soon.
The weird thing about this theme (which also features in PXZ via gloriously-late-90's MIDI magic) is that it reminds me an awful lot of the original songs I try to come up with - there's a good bassline, drumbeat or riff going on, but the composer can't think of any melodies to put on top of that or even how to change chords to make the songs a bit more memorable. I sympathize incredibly with Hideki Okugawa if he ran into that problem, and can hope he only got better in the nine years since the game first came out for the Xbox 360.
To be fair, I don't think I fared much better in trying to do more with the song. A couple of guitar melodies that were based on a deviation of the first verse to Sonic Adventure 2's 'Live and Learn' (a song that had gotten stuck in my head prior to starting work on this remix) and a bassline near the end practically nicked from the final boss theme to Crash TwinSanity were all I could think of in the very short deadline I imposed on myself, so if anyone thinks I've ripped one or two other artists off, this paragraph's your proof.
At least I'll be honest about my inspiration/blatant plagiarism, unlike a certain Dragon Ball Z composer I could name...
