LINER NOTES: 8/August/2015
As someone who enjoys music of all kinds, I'm a large supporter in the archival of as many songs and albums as humanly possible through whatever is needed to do so (official releases, YouTube uploads, internet bootlegs). I bring this up to explain why I'm so irritated that there hasn't been any kind of effort to preserve the soundtrack to the 2011 Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn game.
You'd think it would have some sort of official release, due to its connection to a heavily promoted movie based on one of the world's biggest comic books. Nope. You'd think that someone would have bothered to rip the game's soundtrack at this point and put it up. Nope, since nobody remembers this game exists. You'd think that maybe someone could just record the music while playing the game itself. Nope, since there's no volume control for any part of the game or even a sound test. I hate you all.
It's a shame, since it's a pretty well done score composed by Christophe Heral (Rayman Origins/Legends and Beyond Good & Evil composer) that demonstrates how to do good music that fits with the game while still paying tribute to other aspects of the franchise (numerous themes recall the mood and atmosphere of the soundtrack for the 90's TV series).
Because of this, I've decided to have a crack at recreating one of the more memorable songs from the game; a jazzy track that plays every now and again during the quieter parts of the game (hence why it has its name). This is all done by ear, so there's likely a few inaccurate parts in terms of percussion and when instruments play, but I hoped to make as good a song as I could. For a giggle, I've also included a melody from 'Bruno's Theme' from the Triplets of Belleville soundtrack, since I thought it matched up to the song fairly well.
This one's for you, Heral. I hope you enjoy listening to it anywhere near as much as I do for your songs.
Instruments used: Ethnic Drums (Brush, Bongos, Ting and other drum I don't know the name of), Acoustic Bass, Pizzicato Strings, Baritone Saxophone, Piano, 2 Soprano Saxophones, Clarinet
