Hey players, DJay here with a new arcade longplay on another challenging shmup of the mid-90's, NebulasRay.

Description of the game:

NebulasRay is a vertical scrolling bulletstorm shmup by Namco released exclusively in arcades in March 1994 in Japan and later that same year in North American regions on the Namco NB-1 system board, being their first shmup to be released on the system board and their first game to feature pre-rendered graphics. No home ports nor re-releases have been made. This is Namco's final original shooter. The same team that were involved in development of 1992 Fighter & Attacker have worked on this game. The game has often being compared to Taito's RayForce due to striking similarities in gameplay and "Ray" in their titles. The game itself appears as a sponsor decal in the Ridge Racer games.

In the fictional timeline of A.V. 001, there exists a solar system configured of planets known as the Austral 7 System, with each planet united as a federal nation. Every country in the nation reached an agreement to disband all military activity and establish a federal government, forming peace for nearly 60 years. Eventually, up until the year A.V. 60, a war mysteriously broke out on the planet Sandvurn, leading the government to dispatch the united forces and investigate, but were easily outmatched by the military who insisted to put the federal nation under military control. A year later, the "Lost Marinarc" incident began, where the united forces began a coup d'etat against the government, however, despite their efforts, planet Marinarc was destroyed. While the so-called Master Forces seemed to have taken complete control over the solar system, the federal nations formed the Resistance Forces. In A.V. 067, the Resistance Forces begin all-out attack on the Master Forces, with 2 pilots dispatched in their Fighting Rays, small and nimble spacecraft equipped with powerful weapons, as the solar system's new and only hope.

The game plays similarly to other shmups like Xevious and Dangerous Seed. Players take control of the Fighting Ray, and fly across 6 stages. After clearing all 6, they will be taken to the challenging stage where they play the more aggressive first stage within 1 attempt and will not be granted any more chances or continues from that point onward, plus, they will not be granted any assistance with the use of bombs. Throughout every stage, players will shoot down enemies that appear on-screen and attempt to power themselves up by destroying big Capsules. Capsules yield several power-ups to the Fighting Ray's arsenal including wind shots (wide firing range, but less effective damage) and glow shots (concentrated firing range, but more effective damage). Additional power-ups include twin homing lasers, large fire ball, 4-way shots and a shield, all of which are temporary and will deactivate when the timer runs down to zero. If players find themselves in a tight spot, they can make use of screen clearing bombs, damaging enemies and emanating bullets upon activation. Should the player come into contact with projectiles, enemies or obstacles, they will lose a life and will be granted power-ups to recover upon respawning.

Are you brave enough to overcome 7 stages in this overwhelmingly difficult shmup?
