Final Fantasy XVI is the return to form that Square needed, but it's not the triumph that many of us were hoping for. The game is definitely good, maybe even very good, but it's not "great". And a large part of the reason for this is incredibly ironic. Because even though the game technically fulfills every requirement of being a Final Fantasy title, it's missing the key ingredient that once made the series so special.
