Step Cancel Spam is a very popular technique for short blades that allows you to travel/move your character at high speeds and distances. It allows you to traverse the field very quickly, evade attacks and/or run away from the Aragami. To use this technique, execute the following steps:
1.) Perform a Step Forward.
2.) Press Square.
3.) Perform an Advance Step Forward.
4.) Repeat steps 2 and 3 until stamina is almost consumed.

You can slightly alter the direction of your steps but altering it too much would prevent you from continuing the technique's use. Also, don't let your stamina get depleted or you will enter the "out of breath" status and become unable to move for a short period of time.

This technique can also be used when equipped with long blades but only if you are in Burst mode.
