Johnny Cage - Mr. Hollywood - MK11 - Intros
2Johnny Cage is an icon, but don't take my word for it, he'll tell you himself! He first debuted in the original Mortal Kombat game as one of the seven playable characters in 1992. The character was inspired by the martial arts actor, Jean-Claude Van Damme. 'Frank Dux', the character Van Damme played in the 1988 film Blood Sport in particular (his original outfit is very similar to what Frank Dux wears in the movie as well as his signature move, the splits w/ groin punch). Johnny Cage is a stage name, and the characters 'real' name is John Carlton. The real life John Carlton was an artist and programmer for Midway and he worked on NBA Jam. In the MK lore, Johnny is a famous and famously narcissistic Hollywood star. He entered the first tournament to improve his marketability and to disprove rumors that he relied too heavily on stunt work and special effects for his movies. He's known for being full of himself, and not taking things very seriously. Cage is also an extremely talented martial artist. As the series goes on, he's proven himself to be one of the primary heroes protecting and defending Earthrealm. His smart mouth also is a nice contrast to some of the games more serious characters like Raiden or Liu Kang. I love Johnny Cage, and I'm glad the developers keep him around not only for his wise cracks... but also because he's fun to play. Thanks for watching/reading! See you next time!
