Breath of the Wild is the first example for a very long time of an actual open open-world, you can quite literally go anywhere, there aren't set dressings and pieces of scenery that you cannot traverse, it's why Breath of the Wild feels more open than Horizon Zero Dawn and Nier: Automata.

Breath of the Wild deserves all the praise it's getting, and so does Nier: Automata, and so does Horizon Zero Dawn, they all do what they set out to do excellently (Zelda has superb exploration, Nier has a best-in-class narrative, and Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the prettiest console games ever created).
