A Detailed and Honest Review of King of Retail! We Make Game Reviews, Without The Fluff. Subscribe: https://tinyurl.com/62nkftt5

Hi it’s Zach aka RedcoatViking back with another review, this time to talk about King of Retail which is a detailed business management simulator currently being developed by Freaking Games and published by Iceberg Interactive.

It’s similar to games like Trader Life Simulator and Shoppe Keep 2 where you have to run your own shop, design the interior layout, manage staff and order new stock, so if you’re into that kind of thing then you might want to stick around to check this game out.

King of Retail is a true retail simulator in every sense of the term and even though it’s still in early access, it’s already leaps and bounds ahead of any of the competition in terms of quality and tools to help you manage the day to day running of your shop, and eventually an entire chain of shops.

Starting out with limited capitol and no extra help, you’ve got to design the layout of your shop by placing shelving units and display cases neatly around the floor, as well as the bare essentials such as the cash registry and delivery and storage pallets in the stock room.

The amount of customization is pretty mind blowing and not something you see very often in games like this. With abit of dedication you’re able to design the entire theme of a shop exactly as you want it by designing your own fancy looking signs using the built in editor that lets you add text and shapes wherever you like, or if that doesn’t do it for you, you can easily import your own image to use for the sign.

You could design your own brand and play around with it in Photoshop and then just import it into the game to get the exact look you’re going for, which leaves some exciting opportunities to recreate popular store brands or design your own entirely from scratch and I just think that’s really cool.

The guy behind the Danish company developing the game has a background as a retail management before he started studying game design, and his experience clearly shows in the level of detail in the game, from the way there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get everything done, to how whenever you start putting out stock on the shelves or writing a marketing email, a customer suddenly starts bothering you for help.

Anyone who’s worked in any form of retail before will be able to relate to the non-stop chaos that’s involved in the day to day running of a shop, though thankfully you don’t get sore feet like you would in real life, unless you’re jogging on the spot while you play it, but then that’s on you.

Anyway once you’re done with the initial layout you can open your shop, and when the profits start rolling in you can start to look at expanding by hiring staff to take care of the till, handle floor sales and put out new stock to replace whatever’s sold.

Money’s not overly difficult to make as long as you successfully help customers out with their queries and don’t leave them waiting around for too long. There’s a dialogue box that opens whenever you speak to a customer in need and you’ve basically got to convince them to buy something by increasing their happiness and overall hype about a product, and getting all their stats as high as you can before their patience runs out.

If their patience runs out, they walk away slightly unhappy, though they still decide to buy 1 or 2 items before leaving the shop. Reputation is key though and the more customers you fail to satisfy, the less likely it is that new customers will wander in and buy your stuff...
