Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a first-person shooter developed by MachineGames, and standalone expansion pack for Wolfenstein: The New Order. It was first published by Bethesda Softworks on 5 May 2015 for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
The game once more features William "B.J." Blazkowicz as the protagonist. In 1946, BJ and Richard Wesley, also known as Agent One, attempt to infiltrate Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to find information on the location of Wilhelm "Deathshead" Strasse, the man responsible for Nazi Germany's technological superiority.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a soft remake of the first few and final chapters of Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and is centred around Castle Wolfenstein, a Nazi stronghold in the Alps, as well as the towns of Paderborn and Wulfburg.
The game's gameplay is in large parts shared with its base game, Wolfenstein: The New Order. However, its weapons and enemies are less advanced due to the game being set 15 years earlier. New are a battle mode than can be gradually unlocked during the game, as well as Nightmare Levels - the first ten floors of the first episode of Wolfenstein 3D, remade in the id Tech 5 engine.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood generally received positive reviews, with critics noting the strong similarities to the base game. It would be followed up by the next mainline Wolfenstein game, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
