Literally Walk Right Past The Guard (Secret of Mana, SNES) - A Wild Glitch Appears!
811When you get to The Empire (that's the name of the town) in Secret of Mana, you'll see a colorful NPC standing guard near the east end of the city. If you approach her, she will run north to block the gate, so you can't progress to the next area. Normally you have to do a whole bunch of STUFF to get by her, but there's a super easy exploit that allows you to walk right by the guard!
Normally you're supposed to meet the woman at the northwest corner of town. If you speak with her inside her home, she reveals that she's a Tasnican spy working against the Emperor. She also gives you a three digit code, and it's always the same - 634.
ONLY NOW can you return to the guard in front of the gate and tell her the passcode. Doing this causes the NPC to move away from the gate, granting you access to THE SEWERS which is where we need to go at this point of the game for some reason.
Note that even if you know the three-digit code beforehand, you cannot use the code until you talk to the Tasnican spy lady, so having this knowledge beforehand isn't useful in any way.
What you can do, though, is walk right by the NPC guarding the sewer entrance. Directly to the west of the NPC there is a fountain and some trees near a wall. Walk north between the fountain and the trees and press your face against the wall, then walk directly east as far as you can go to get past the guard. Now simply walk north and enter the gate. The NPC will NOT see you behind the trees, and you've skipped some "mandatory" conversations!
This trick saves you probably 30 seconds in a speedrun, I would imagine.
