Lukozer Retro Game Review 245 - Interstellar - Laserdisc Arcade Coin-Op
My review of the arcade coin-op game Interstellar, released by Funai in 1983. This was the first laserdisc coin-op game to feature laserdisc footage during the actual gameplay. The only laserdisc game released prior to this one was Quarter Horse, where the laserdisc footage consisted of various horse races that you watched, with no interaction or any kind of overlay. Consequently this was pretty much a prototype machine and yet it featured more ambition and use of the laserdisc than the likes of Bega's Bollocks did. Not the most sophisticated coin-op game, but given that no arcade game looked anything like this at the time, and what this title gave birth to regarding laserdisc gaming, it deserves a mention. To top it all, the game may be simple, but it's a fun blaster that plays somewhat similarly to Beamrider with shades of a playable version of the C64 game Triad...
