"Mission: Impossible – Fallout" (2018) directed by Christopher McQuarrie is the sixth film in the series and is by far the best of them all so far. Scientology aside, Tom Cruise makes amazing films and I believe he might be the only leading actor that I've given two perfect scores to in my "critic career."

The Syndicate has not been stopped despite their leader Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) being in custody. A new segment of the Syndicate splits off and calls themselves the Apostles, who have a crazed belief that the more death and destruction they cause, the better off the world will be for it. Ethan (Cruise) and his team, with the support of Hunley (Alec Baldwin) this time, are tasked (if they choose to accept) with seizing two plutonium bombs that will be used to slaughter 1/3 of the world's population. Agent Walker (Henry Cavill) is mandated to accompany the IMF and ensure they are performing correctly in their new mission due to past events shaking the government's trust in them.

Mission: Impossible 6 is bigger, more epic, and features non stop tension filled adrenaline from start to finish. The previous films occasionally took a break or two for a scene of talking or whatever, but this one refuses to. Normally a film paced like this would exhaust me but the length felt appropriate and the story was genuinely interesting enough that I was totally in to it start to finish with zero issues. It's weird how certain franchises get better with their sequels and other ones get worse, because I can't even think of the first three films in this series when comparing them to the greatness of the latest three.

Initially I was left wondering where Jeremy Renner was, but that thought soon faded as we received Henry Cavill performing admirably in his role and completely outshining the likes of Renner. The decision to return the great villain from the previous film was a very good one, and they handled the transition very well here. There are two main reasons this film is so much better than the previous ones. The first is the sheer non stop action buffet, that refuses to quit or take a rest. The second is the fact that this one references almost every other film in the series so far and features the strongest continuities of all of the others combined, I actually felt like Ethan's character was going in a direction somewhere and that the stakes of the past actually mattered and affected things, where as most of these films will simply move on and forget the past in order to explore their new greatest feats.

Fallout is an incredible action film that operates more as a "Part 2" to the previous film, as opposed to being it's own self contained story (a very good thing in this case). The cast are all excellent and it's not just Cruise carrying them anymore, and I want to give a special mention to the bathroom fight scene for being extremely visceral and well choreographed.
