"Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation" (2015) directed by Christopher McQuarrie is an extremely well made and satisfying action movie. Unfortunately the other day I was made aware of what Scientology is exactly and how unhinged Tom Cruise is in real life, so . . . Let's just pretend that's not the case so that I can take his current and future works seriously as he is not a bad actor by any means.

IMF is shut down by the CIA because they consider them reckless gamblers who create fantasy. Ethan (Cruise) is bent of uncovering the identity of a rogue organization called Syndicate, whom were founded by MI6 but were presumably disbanded. Syndicate has become a criminal enterprise devoted to chaos and terrorism. Ethan and his team want to show the CIA that the Syndicate are in fact a real threat so that their names can be cleared and IMF can be reinstated.

Rogue Nation is pretty cut and clear. It delivers everything you want as a fan of this series and it shows us that each sequel continues to outdo the previous. The action is extremely good and the best sequences were even better than the previous film's best sequences (This time it was the opera section and the very epic car / motorcycle chase that makes most other vehicle chase scenes in action films look mediocre in comparison). Sean Harris plays a very good and competent villain in Solomon Lane.

This film is very capable of a perfect score but I want to hold it back just a tiny bit so that there is room for improvement in the future. This was quite epic but I already know for a fact they will top it in the sequels. My two actual criticisms for the film are very small and simple. Ethan is nothing more than an action prop piece and does not really have any character growth in any of these films so far, and there was also a small error towards the end when Lane is trapped in a glass bulletproof box for dramatic effect / reveal, but I thought it was a little silly due to the fact a psychopathic terrorist like Lane probably wouldn't allow himself to be taking alive considering he has a gun with a full clip in his hand and he knows what is coming for him if he is taken alive, so to be specific, I personally think Lane would have shot himself so having the 30 second scene of filling up the box with gas as Lane pointlessly shoots at the glass instead of himself was a bit unrealistic / silly to me personally.

Mission: Impossible 5 does not disappoint. Also in Cruise's defense, Christianity isn't that much far fetched compared to Scientology.
