The N64DD Mouse! We spoof unboxing videos and review the mouse on the N64DD!

We have the N64DD mouse here! It’s a relatively rare item since it was produced for the n64DD and only 10-20k of those add-ons were actually sold.

Now, different accessories were packaged with the Mario Artist titles for the N64DD. So for example, talent studio came with the N64 capture card and microphone. If you want more info on that I’d recommend watching our Talent Studio review! Click the screen to watch!

The mouse was packaged with Mario Artist paint studio. Unfortunately I don’t own paint studio (I actually did for a few days, but I returned it because of disk errors), but again, if you want more info, click the screen for our review.

Let’s test it out with the Randnet disk and Talent Studio. It’s pretty simple. In fact…it works just like a mouse….on your N64. Surprise, surprise! The movement isn’t necessarily better than the analog stick though, it’s…hmm it’s really smooth, but also faster. Here’s me with the analog stick; it’s absolutely slower comparatively, but you have a bit more precision because you aren’t shooting around the screen. This is even true with the speed bumped down a bit. However, it DOES free up your other hand for the N64 DD keyboard.

Movement obviously moves the mouse, left click is A, right click is B. But let’s try it with some other games! Hey what the hell, why not?

Here’s me playing it with F-Zero X Expansion Kit! It actually works really well for slight movements, boosting and braking! But those turns are awful!

Same for Ditty Kong Racing!

You can only really use it for racing games though, watch me use it with Mario 64. A slight movement pushes him forward, but you can’t keep him moving. It just doesn’t work. This just looks…bad. And really it would only work where the only buttons you need are A and B. Some people mentioned trying it with Starcraft 64 since it’s a PC port, but keep in mind again, you only have the A and B buttons. Not sure if that’d work.

But alas it wasn’t made for that anyways, just thought I’d show you all for fun. I think the only thing we haven’t shown you all from the N64DD is the keyboard now. Which I don’t actually own at this time nor have ever used. Keep checking in though, if I ever acquire one, I’ll show you all. In the mean time, check out our playlist of N64DD reviews if you’re interested, we’ve reviewed every 64DD game released. Thanks for watching!
