As some of you already know, I’m not a huge fan of the original Persona Q. In case you need a reminder, this game was a crossover between both Persona and another franchise called etrian odyssey; which is a series of dungeon crawlers also developed by atlus. Persona Q was a game filled to the brim with potential, but its execution left a lot to be desired. While there are things to appreciate about the game, as a whole, it’s not something that I like to revisit often. Because of my overall indifference towards this game, I never ended up playing its direct sequel Persona Q2 when it first came out. From the little I saw, it looked to be more of the same, but with the characters of Persona 5 now being thrown into the mix.

So, I gave it a pass and didn’t really think much of it. However, as time has gone on, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Persona Q2. Some people have even gone as far as to say that it’s one of, if not, the best spinoff in the Persona series. While this did pique my interest, what really sealed the deal for me was the number of comments I received on my video covering the first game telling me how much of an improvement the sequel was. After hearing all of this positive buzz surrounding Q2, I decided to give the game a shot myself and came out feeling rather conflicted. Persona Q2 is a game of many peaks and valleys. It strives to be an improvement over the first game and in a lot of ways, it succeeds. However, that doesn’t mean that all of the issues I had were addressed, and in some ways, I’d argue that the first Persona Q game is better in some areas. Like I said, it’s complicated.
