0From a gameplay standpoint, this demo is the completely identical to the full game.
Things that are different however is that you can only choose to play as Reimu, Mima and Marisa. The opponents you can get are the same three (and chosen randomly). There is only one playable stage, making this the only Touhou game to not feature 3 stages in the demo. The opponent you go against appears to be programmed the same way as the Stage 7 AI in the full game. This means at the first round, under normal circumstances, she will die after 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Upon clearing the demo, the clear bonus is treated the same. There is no bonus for remaining lives though. Other than that, the starting rank is the same as in Stage 1 in the full game.
After looking more carefully to this run, I noticed a major difference however. In the first round, the AI's first hit took off 4½ hearts from her health. And rounds later on also had the AI take unusual amounts of damage. That is something that in the full game is completely impossible to see unless you pacify for long enough to force that to happen. My only theory for this happening is that the damage calculation that is used, is the same as what is Stage 1 in the full game. Because the AI in the full game takes damage much sooner than here in the demo (which uses Stage 7 AI), perhaps enough time has passed for the intended damage to increase. To sum up more clearly, it uses the damage calculation of what is Stage 1 in the full game, but applies it to the Stage 7 AI in the demo. Presumably this was intentionally done just to treat as placeholder data.
To comment on the run itself, I just did this one run for fun and decided to keep it because there were some flashy dodges. I got 35 million which is probably not that great, but I just one run and it was neat playing through it in it's less completed form anyways
