A snippet from one of our sparring classes, a student focusing on Sword and Shield is being shown an effective way of using a shield Jab to open up an opponent for a strike.

Richard is using the Heater shield in a strapped configuration, which is currently the default for out group @orderoftheblade7321 @lofty2tall. This is the least manoeuvrable way to hold this type of shield, but does allow for some strong blocks and as we can see, plenty of cheekiness.

My own take on this technique is that it's quite useful, if you do overextend or miss a strike from the 2nd custodia "Hue ahoy" or whatever you'd like to call the position, you do tend to have to bring your shield up or out on order to get past it again. Often in fact, attacking from your shield side does leave your arm exposed for quite a while, so being able to negate this is a big benefit too.

By turning this action of making space for your sword into an offensive action is a great way to keep the pressure on an opponent.
Attacking with the sharper part of the shield as well is a cool idea that I don't see often.
