At first glance, you’ll think this game is pointless. Until you find yourself several hours later still playing it.

An open world procedural exploration game - in the likes of Journey, Flower and, most similar of all, Proteus - Shape of The World is a visually stunning experience. The environment grows around you as you explore. Each step you take makes the scenery react to your presence, presenting you with random beautiful creations. It’s like bringing art to life and you are the god before a white canvas world. Clicking on elements will also have it’s effects, like removing trees to open a path or creating bushes on the ground. Also, each time you pass a “checkpoint” the mood of the world changes in unexpected ways.

But the audio is also a big part of the game. It’s not just there to complement the ambient, you feel like it’s truly an intrinsic part of the creation of the world.

The goal is to roam and explore limitless potential. Exploration is not just a feature - it’s the focus.
But a lot can change from here until the game’s release, since it’s still on it’s Kickstarter phase. So if you also think this is worth a shot, then support this great experience that reminds people that not all those who wander are lost.

7 out 10 (for now).
