My favorite video game(s) of all time Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles!
Here's a video of me getting a PERFECT in the Special Stage. While my route isn't necessarily perfect, I still get all of the rings - which is what is required to get a PERFECT.
A couple of notes: The game doesn't penalize you for landing on top of a red orb after a jump, you'll see me abuse that a few times throughout the stages. Many of the stages are setup in a way for you to miss getting a PERFECT, to circumvent that I suggest skipping over small 2 and 4 grouped blue spheres once the remaining number hits the low 30s. You also can't turn until you hit a corner of a square, so you may need to plan a jump EARLY to avoid being unable to turn from a red orb after landing.
Tips: Avoid yellow spheres as much as possible, unless its the only way to escape from a trail of red orbs. If you're lost and can't find the final blue spheres, then hug a wall of red/bumper spheres - just realize when you're going in circles and then choose another wall to traverse around.
For those who don't know: Blue Spheres is the mini game designed for the Special Stages of Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. Sonic and friends run along a 3D map to collect all of the blue spheres in order to win the game - which rewards you with a Chaos Emerald. Clusters of 9 blue spheres or more provide an opportunity get rings. In order to get those rings, the player must collect the perimeter of the cluster of blue spheres. Doing so will turn the whole cluster of spheres into Rings. Collecting all rings in a Special Stage is considered a PERFECT, which will also guarantee a life up and a continue - for those who lose all of their lives. Keep in mind that the game speeds up over time! =O
