Playthrough of the version included on the SEGA Mega Drive Flashback. If you've not heard of this console, it was released in 2017 by AtGames. The actual console looks like an original Mega Drive console, but it's smaller and comes with two wireless six button controllers. AtGames have released several SEGA "console on a chip" systems before, but this was the first one to actually look like a Mega Drive. And unlike their previous ones, this one has HDMI output.

AtGames' previous attempts had horrible sound emulation -just search Youtube for "AtGames SEGA sound" and you'll find examples. The Flashback thankfully features massive improvements with the sound, and the music for each game at least sounds like how it's supposed to sound. It does have a problem where the music will sometimes just cut out completely for a second or two.

But the main problem with the Flashback is that the games play at lower framerates than they're supposed to, leading to choppiness and other issues.

The Flashback version of Sonic 1 doesn't run as smoothly as the original version. And the bad controllers this console comes with can really make things more difficult. The bit at 28:05 was infuriating, casued by the controller dropping my inputs repeatedly. I got killed at around 38:56 due to the controller getting stuck on right for a couple of seconds after I let go of it. If you do end up getting a Flashback, don't use the controllers it comes with.

The Flashback comes with two wireless six button controllers, but my advice is to not use them -they're terrible! They require two AAA batteries each, the battery compartments are screwed on, and the biggest problem is that the controllers can and will completely drop your inputs for a couple of seconds at random. Sometimes they can get stuck on a direction after you've let go of it, eg if you were pressing right and then let go, the controller will still think it's pressed on right for a second or more.

I would advise to not buy the Flashback, go for the Mega Drive Mini instead.
