Rygar is an earlier NES game that I recall being pretty well received if Nintendo Power is to be believed. I'm going in with no prior knowledge of the game though as I've always tried to avoids any articles about it, assuming that I would someday play it for myself. It seems like it might be kind of metroid-vania? We'll be finding out tonight!
