The Tales Of series is one of those JRPGs that are not usually well known, even for the JRPG public they do not have due recognition, in many cases they are even overshadowed by better-known IP's such as FF or DRAGON QUEST.
However, TALES OF has gained some recognition since BERSERIA and especially with ARISE. That offers a more Western story that can be enjoyed by a more international audience.

WHATS IS GOOD ABOUT TALES OF ARISE?
ARISE brings a series of changes to the gameplay and the presentation of the story, which made it more enjoyable for a new audience, without leaving aside the key mechanics that make it a Tales of the same.

AN EPIC STORY?
ARISE opts this time for a more Western and less Asian story, to offer the classic adventure of the errant knight who must accompany his maiden along a tortuous journey. In fact, the concept behind Alphen and Shionne is so well constructed that it is impossible not to generate empathy or a certain connection with her. In a few words is an epic story with a lot twist that will hit the player, specially with the dark theme of the game, THIS WORLD IS KINDA SHITTY.

THE COMBAT SYSTEM?

You can ask anyone you want and they will always tell you that Tales of is like a fighting game, more than an ARPG, simply because a large part of the combat system requires the player to build combos to perform devastating attacks. That archetype has not changed but it has been reduced a little, so as not to be as demanding as in other titles in the series.
The arts system works the same as in any other TALES OF, where the correct selection of them allows you to build better combos and ultimately dominate in combat.

Another very welcome inclusion is the ability for your teammates to intervene with special attacks during your combos with another character. This helps to control certain enemies and each attack has a specific use, such as making flying enemies fall, interrupting arts, knocking down enemies with a shield, repelling attacks, etc.

Perhaps the best part of the combat is just the finisher combos that team members can perform and the use of Alphen's special attacks with the Blazzing Sword. This make this system fresh and very addictive.

FInally, the AI is quite decent in the default settings (strategy), but i strongly recommend limit the arts they can use.

THE SKITS?
Another recurring element in Tales OF are the narrative vignettes, where they offer us small moments of interaction between the characters. These vignettes were usually presented in anime format, but here they decided to use the regular art of the game. Whether it is better or worse depends on each player, but in the end you get used to it.

THE OST?
The sound component here is simply beautiful and perfectly accompanies the story, it is tragic when it should be and challenging in decisive moments. Without a doubt, a great OST with excellent musical pieces.

THE PERFORMANCE?
As always the game offer to modes the graphic mode and the performance mode, honestly i´ll prefer 60 fps than a few grapfics, in an action game like this FPS are very important. The runs well from all my gameplays i never suffer crashes or bugs that ruin my experience.

WHATS IS BAD? OH BOY

This is a very good new gen JRPG but is not perfect and bring some crappy choices from the old formula.

A LOT OF GRINDING?
Depends, if you play under the games rules yes, youll had to do some serious farm or grinding to survive the highest fights. Thats why every tales of games bring DLC content to level up faster, get more resources, more items, better weapons, etc. In the end it depends on how much time you want to dedicate to the game and whether or not you want to access that extra content. But keep in mind that the game is thinking to force you to grind.

THE CP SYSTEM? KINDA PUNISHING MECHANIC

The biggest proof of that is the CP system and the money you gain in the game, is not easy become rich in the game. An constantly the game will force you to decide if spend money in armor, items or crafting, the other risky mechanic is the CP, the CP IS THE RESOURCES THAT LET YOU CANST CURE SPELLS AND DOA CTION IN THE WORLD, SUCH AS HEAL NPC, DESTROY OBSTACLE, ETC. SO YOU'RE ESSENTIALLY GOING TO HAVE TO DECIDE WHETHER TO SPEND ON THIS OR THAT, OR WHETHER TO SAVE YOUR CP FOR THE DIFFICULT FIGHTS.

THE SIDEQUEST DESIGN?

Maybe the worst part of the game are the sidequest they are bring and poorly design, normally is just doing more and more of the same crap. Just a few of them are fun to do.

MY CONCLUSION?

TALES OF ARISE is pretty good JRPG with a lot of tense and fun moments, as any japanese game has a lot of comedy in this dark world.
Without a doubt one of those JRPGs that mark the new generation and that you should play. It has too many good things and in the end it is a love story. So I recommend it guys, it's worth every penny you pay for it. But I do suggest a version that comes with the DLC XD
