288The journey continues through the history of DOCTOR WHO VIEWING FIGURES! We've reached SEASON 24, the first year of adventures for Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor!
After a make-or-break trial from the previous year, Doctor Who managed to survive, and returned with a brand-new Doctor, new titles and theme music, new special effects, and new ways to tell engaging stories! Accompanied by his friend Mel (Bonnie Langford) and later joined by the firey teenager Ace (Sophie Aldred), the Seventh Doctor is a man of fun and comedy, but also great mystique and power. From the word go, he faces up against one of his own people, the Rani, who has a score to settle. But as well as her, the Doctor must face the fiendish Chief Caretaker, the vicious Gavrok and his army of Bannermen, and the cold-hearted Kane, on the surface of Iceworld. Quite a toll order for your first year, but Sylvester and the team give it the best they can!
But after all of these entertaining escapades, how did the viewing figures hold up? Did the addition of a new Doctor fulfil the BBC higher ups expectations of higher audience numbers, or did the gamble fall flat, with the numbers sinking lower than ever before...
