This month marks the 30th anniversary of the Game Boy. It launched on April 21, 1989 in Japan. It was later released in July for North America, but let’s forget about that for now. In honor of the original debut I decided to look at games that only launched in Japan. And then I thought, hey, let’s look at the best fan patches while we’re at it. Long-winded explanation aside, here is five amazing imported Game Boy games with English translations. Enjoy!

These are the 10 games in the intro in order: Ikari no Yousai 2, Karakuri Kengou Den Musashi Lord, God Medicine: Hukkoku Ban, Penta Dragon, Daiku no Gen-san Kachikachi no Tonkachi ga Kachi, Banishing Racer, Super Bikkuriman: Densetsu no Sekiban, Ultraman Chou Toushi Gekiden, Super Robot Taisen, and Star Ocean: Blue Sphere.

And these are the main games in the top 5 in order: Another Bible, Pokémon Card GB2: Great Rocket-Dan Sanjo, Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible II, Gargoyle’s Quest II: The Demon of Darkness, and Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru.
