This is my second Ultima V speedrun video of sorts. The video I uploaded over two years prior was focused in winning Ultima V in the fewest number of Britannia Days (four), and it relied heavily on saving and restarting to get favorable luck from the random number generator with regard to treasure chests.

UPDATE: I have a new 23-minute optimized run now at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haOlMeQNCU4

This new video is a more traditional speedrun, and I used the following self-imposed guidelines:
1. Do NOT quit and save (i.e., go straight through)
2. Do NOT let entire party die (i.e., no "deathwarp")
3. Do NOT rely heavily on random number generator
4. Be reasonably practical to accomplish/reproduce
5. Since this is a speedrun, try to go fast :-)

Guidelines 3 and 4 are open to interpretation, but I wanted to have some leeway to make some mistakes and still win the game. Since I had to do the video in one take, I did not want to rely on ANY treasure chests or on stumbling upon a pirate ship. Consequently, I bought a ship by selling weapons and armor found at fixed locations in the game. Also, I wanted to make sure dungeon Doom was manageable in order to prevent Yet Another Stupid Death. You might notice that I only use 3 of the 4 Negate Time scrolls I collect because one is for emergency-use only.

For the record, I was running "DOSBox 0.74, Cpu speed: 3000 cycles, Frameskip 0"--DOSBox defaults on my nine-year-old laptop (1.6 GHz Intel Core Duo) with 32-bit Win7.

I did not use any saved game editor (NO hex editing) or any hotkey bots--ALL keyboard input was from my own hands.

That said, I do exploit some features of the Ultima 5 game engine: notably the fact that the glass sword does not break if the Avatar is dead, the fact that resurrection restores all magic points, and the fact that a treasure chest will contain very few items if there are already a lot of items (from other open chests) on screen.

This video is 35-minutes long. I hope you enjoy and are possibly motivated to share your own speedrun video or strategy!
