Comparing the Japanese and English voices of Xaldin.

Yosuke Akimoto vs. David Dayan Fisher

This is a case where performance means everything. Akimoto and Fisher's voices are actually quite similar, but their performances are completely different. Akimoto plays Xaldin like an imposing, calculating and sadistic military commander, which is exactly what the character is. Fisher, on the other hand, plays him like a soft-spoken manipulator along the lines of Hannibal Lecter.

While I can see why Fisher or his voice director would chose this kind of performance, it just doesn't work because it very visibly doesn't match Xaldin's body language when hooded nor his facial expressions when unhooded. Fisher does much better as Xaldin with his lines in battle, so it's a shame he couldn't do that the whole way through. As it stands, Akimoto wins out here.
