Here is of my full playthrough of Joe & Mac 2 done, as always using original hardware on a Super Nintendo with no cheats or save states!
Follow me on instagram @Cabin_game_fever to join me live or via my reviews and uploads to witness me take down all the games currently in my SNES collection on their starting settings, following on from having already beaten all 234 licenced UK releases for the NES. I only use original carts, no cheats & no save states.
REVIEW: (Originally posted on Instagram):
-Well it's taken 3 attempts but finally I've beaten a Joe & Mac game I actually quite enjoyed!
I should highlight that aesthetics have never been an issue. Infact both previous entries were outstanding graphically and this entry only compliments that. The problem drives, almost entirely from the exceptionally awful controls. The jump mechanics, especially for the first snes game, are just outright broken, it's that simple! The gameplay overall is fun but the crippled jumping tips the scales towards infuriating very quickly! It was enough to see me firmly state I'd never play another entry in the series without the addition of a very large club hammer within arms reach!
And yet, less than months later, here I am holding a copy of the marginally more well reviewed sequel, with a look of sheer amazement on my face, as the realisation of the fact that I did, actually, quite enjoy this playthrough attempts to sink in!
The game is far from perfect; it's too short, feels rather empty and it does suffer alot for being far too easy, but...The jumping isn't utterly broken, the controls work well and the aesthetics are certainly more than just pleasing on the eye. Most importantly; it's actually fun to play! Given the high price of its NTSC carts aquasition, the gameplay probably doesn't do enough to justify its cost but you can certainly do worse for alot more!
The addition of a password system circumvents any need for concern regarding a 'Game Over', making the inclusion of continues utterly redundant!
I'm sure due largely to it's late system release, the game never seems to attract much attention. With a stream of fans flying the flags for the original, it's a shame more didn't get a chance to play this because it definitely is the best of 3 I've played.
Fun as it was though, please....NO MORE
