11Lennas Inception is an Indie, Retro, Action RPG Roguelike massively influenced by the old greats.
Think Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, but with Procedural Generation of the dungeons! OMG!
Random World and Random Dungeons!
Lennas Inception has the Hack and Slash ARPG combat of the early Zelda games, plus a random overworld and dungeons; making it so you never know exactly what will come next.
Like the old but still good Zelda Games, there is a metroidvania influence here, with each new item you acquire unlocking more of the map.
The Sword lets you cut through bushes and green crystals, scoring coins, healing hearts, and new paths on overworld and dungeon.
There are some weird fish leather shorts that let you wade through water, sort of like the flippers from A Link To The Past.
The bike lets you quickly fast travel around the overworld, sort of like the flute from the original Legend of Zelda.
Lennas Inception has absolutely incredible title screen and sound!
It’s just so high energy and heroic!
The game music is so good, for both the SNES like version, and the super retro 8-bit like version; yep you get 2 different ways of playing the game!
So Much Content!
Multiple game modes: Regular story mode, Daily seed run, 1 Dungeon run, which is random, All Dungeons: all 8 dungeons with only 1 life; 3 hearts: 8 dungeons with only 3 hearts, 0 Heart: can’t take a hit, Sniper, Bomber, and Arsonist: you don’t have a sword, a reflex mode: even faster, plus a glitch mode, if you’re into that. WOW!
Lighter: has a 3 second cooldown to fire, can hold down it down for 2 second to dash forward leaving a line of flame; awesome!
Bomb: infinite bombs; you can drop at your feet, or toss in a direction by aiming in that direction, but they have friendly fire; 2 hearts damage, watch out! So fun!
Sniper: infinite arrows; can fire rapidly, and you can hold it down for up to 5 seconds for a more powerful shot; cannot charge up the bow shot while moving.
Note: In these dungeon rush modes, you go directly from dungeon to dungeon.
And in many of them, when you die, you start at the beginning, and can try the same dungeon again.
Controller Support is present and good, which is very good, as mouse support is not present in game, meaning: if you want to play this absent a controller, it will be with two hands on keyboard.
Thankfully, Lennas Inception plays extremely well with a gamepad, so that is what I used in the above video.
Local Co-op Multiplayer is present as well, in case that is something that interests you.
To play Local-Co, you have to unlock Shadow Lenna; just clear the super short first dungeon, and visit a shrine near the start to the game; it’s easy.
Note: Local co-op only works in the story mode; which is still procedural.
Anyway, Lennas Inception is a fun Retro, Hack and Slash Action Roguelike with both Random dungeons and random worlds, and is massively influenced by the old Legend of Zelda games.
Lennas Inception is easily worth a wishlist and a watch.
