(CCPlays) 1984 Soviet Campaign | Part 1: Slightly Less Rusty Bucket | Cold Waters DotMOD
Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the 1984 Soviet Campaign, and thanks to the slightly easier difficulty setting, we are starting with 50 prestige (instead of zero), which gives us... a Foxtrot instead of the museum relic Whiskey.
You will see a new episode every 2 days.

07-JUL-1984 Murmansk, USSR
I was summoned to Murmansk Naval Base with a "don't ask questions" order. But my arrival was barely noticed, for the base is bustling with activity, albeit always under cover. The Yankee spy satellites are everywhere. I manage to locate the duty officer, who located my file, knocked on the Admiral's office, and walked straight in. I was not ready for what came next.
We are going to war.
The actual reasons do not matter, but the Politburo has decided that a conventional war in Europe can be won, provided the Navy do its duty... choke off the supplies from North America.
With my relatively minor connections, I was given command of a Foxtrot-class submarine, B-164. While a nuclear sub would be nice, I should be glad I did not end up on something even older, a Zulu or Whiskey class boat.
I was handed my sealed orders, not to open them until we are underway. Then I was hurried out of the office, where I observed other commanders, presumably to hear similar speeches.
I was quickly delivered to the pier where B-164 was tied up along with several other diesel-electric boats. I got onboard, and asked the senior officers to meet me in my quarters. There, I unsealed the orders in front of them. We have been tasked to stop the supplies to Trondheim, Norway, in anticipation of our land attack on Norway. The young ones are excited, but the older ones are weary, as I expected.
We got underway as we made some final adjustments to our torpedo load. At least we are not going very far.

We submerged when sonar reported an underwater contact. However, our job is not to sink submarines. We are designed as convoy raiders, and we will do that. After some intense listening did not bring up any contact, we turned away from the last known bearing and disengaged.

We submerged again, when sonar reported an underwater contact. We are a slow diesel boat, not designed to tangle with other subs. My plan is to simply look for the other sub. If we can hear them, they're probably nuclear boats capable of outrunning us so we need to stay quiet. If we can't hear them, they probably can't hear us either. We got a contact, fired two torpedoes at it, then when we can we disengaged.
And the war continues... in the next episode.
