Previously, in the 1984 Soviet Campaign of Cold Waters... We were successful in our first convoy ambush when we torpedoed a cargo ship and left its escort behind.

Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the 1984 Soviet Campaign, at a slightly lower difficulty level of "casual".

12-JUL-1984 Norwegian Coast
After our successful ambush, we were recalled to Murmansk.
13-JUL-1984 Murmansk, USSR
We were given new orders... we are to deploy Spetsnaz team to a landing zone near port of Andoya. We can expect heavy patrols. To accommodate the team, we have to go with only the torpedo in our tubes. Fortunately, Foxtrot has ten tubes, but that would mean we are only going out with 4 antisub torpedoes, 4 antiship torpedoes, and 2 decoys.
Andoya is pretty close, but the mission is far from simple. We avoided any encounters and got to Andoya's outskirts.
We initialized and found escorts to the north, to the south, and to the east. Our target deployment zone is to the south-southeast. There are also several helos pinging the area. We identified the escort to the north as Oslo, and the other two are Nordkapps. And the southern Nordkapp is directly between me and our objective.
We tried engaging the southern Nordkapp, and one of the wakehomers did home in, but somehow it lost the wake and went into a death loop. Our shooting attracted the attention of a helo which promptly dropped a torpedo on us, which was followed by more torpedoes from the Norkapp. I had to spend BOTH active decoys (the only two I carried), and even then I took a hit, then another, but by then the decoys drew their attention away, and I managed to reach the landing zone without further incident. The area can only be approached at periscope depth, for the beach is only meters below.
Let's just say the Spetsnaz lieutenant and his team probably cursed us multiple times when we took the hits. They were QUITE happy to "lock out" with their equipment and take life at their own terms. We bid them farewell, knowing we'd likely never see each other again.
After they left, we slowly turned the ship around, and headed back out toward the northwest, managed to disengage.

We headed back to Murmansk for our proper load of torpedoes.
15-JUL-1984 Murmansk, USSR
We made it back to port to reload our torpedoes, and received our new orders.
Then it's off to intercept yet ANOTHER convoy from Bergen to Andoya...
NOTE: Log from 16-JUL-1984 to 17-JUL-1984 were lost. Next log entry is 18-JUL-1984
The war continues in the next episode.
