This has been the hardest one-on-one boss fight for me thus far. The decreased damage output from not having any weapon upgrades was very noticeable, especially during phase 2. To not have the fight be extremely long I really had to work on getting consistent with punishing more openings, which made this challenge extra fun. One of the highlights for me was getting consistent at rolling and punishing the phase 1 Fissure attack. Doing so both feels great and gives three safe opportunities to attack during it. Additionally, I feel like I managed to get a bit more confident with handling phase 2.
Same as with my rune level 1 playthrough, this is the point where I decided to switch to the Red-Feathered Branchsword over Ritual Sword Talisman. Getting hit by most attacks outside of the full arena stomp mean a game over anyways, and the extra 10% damage is also a nice bonus.
After testing out various weapons, to see if I could get some extra damage output, I eventually settled on using a Cold infused Greataxe. Out of all the weapons I tested it felt like the one that gave me a good mix of damage output, moveset, and attack animation speed for this specific fight. Which allowed for some nice openings during both phase 1 and 2.
This still remains my favorite boss fight in the game. Next up is Radagon and Elden Beast, which based on how this fight went might end up being tricky too.
