This was a scary but fun fight with this damage output, especially the later part of phase 2. Weapon upgrades really make a difference, without them the damage output looks to be reduced to roughly 1/4 of that of my rune level 1 clear.
Getting used to some new openings cut down the duration of the fight a bit. But I also had to get used to not doing some of the riskier responses I’d gotten used to doing. One example being rolling through the second phase spear stab explosions like I did during my rune level 1 clear. I just can’t consistently roll that during the more stressful later part, so just felt better to avoid doing it and instead doing a running attack as a response if the opportunity presents itself.
I also decided to use Raptor Talons with bleed during the phase transition to cut down on the amount Mohg heals during it. Reducing the amount Mohg heals during Nihil by about 3000 damage makes a huge difference. This is the Raptor Talons main purpose during this fight. I could have continued using them to get some extra bleed damage but decided against it. In part because as Mogh’s bleed resistance grows the regular damage of Talon Claws ends up making the fight drag on compared to the more upfront damage of the Curved Club, but also because I vastly prefer the Curved Club moveset. More damage per hit felt more useful than the possible application of a status effect if Mohg decided to give me enough buildup opportunities to apply it.
Now that we know this will most likely be the entrance, I look forward to seeing what challenges the DLC will bring.
