In this part, we begin the game and play through the first Zone, Emerald Hill. We also obtain the first five Chaos Emeralds during this zone by winning them in the Special Stages. In order to enter a special stage, we must gather 50 or more rings and touch a checkpoint post, then jump into the stars. The goal of the special stages is to gather a set number of rings before reaching the three checkpoints, otherwise we fail.
