Gord: The first 20 minutes of gameplay on Xbox Series S
Gord is a game I can't help but appreciate for blending together genres. Each element is reasonably engaging and the balance between them is good. There's a mix of base building and survival-focused resource management, with RPG-like adventuring and some basic character progression. If I had to pick two recent examples, I’d say Gord feels like a scaled-back mix of Frostpunk and SpellForce 3. I just wish I had picked up the PC version as the controller support leaves a lot to be desired.
For those curious about how the "budget" console performs, here are 20 minutes from the opening mission played on an Xbox Series S. Overall, it still looked good on both a 1080p and 4K display, though the framerate feels variable at times (especially in some later campaign missions) which can impact input controller responsiveness.
