Helldivers 2: Sony funked around and found out
9It's been a weekend for Arrowhead Games, Sony, and more importantly, the fans and player base of Helldivers 2. The players on PC, to be exact.
From contradictory EULAs, Terms of Service, Official FAQs, Steam Requirments, in-game messages, and one-off messages from February 8th in a singular discord channel in a singular discord server, woe was upon Sony.
From re-enabling the PSN Account requirement, 90 days after abandoning it, Sony announced they were re-enabling it. After selling the game to consumers in 177 regions on Steam that Sony doesn't support or allow to have PSN Accounts. That's a big no-no.
From community manager supported review bombing and refund request brigading, Valve manually restricting the games sale despite Sony clearly knowing how that system works with their Global and Japanese versions of the game, come Monday in Japan Sony finally broke silence and said they were walking back the requirement.
Will they re-enable the game worldwide? Who knows. But one thing I've definitely learned from all this is that console warriors are definitely brain dead and think that selling a game to people in countries you are going to not allow to play your game is exactly the same as EA having you make an EA account. A difference being that the PSN Account is only usable in 69 countries. An EA Account is unavailable in 7 countries. Kind of a big difference.
