How Screwed Would You Be? Crowdfunding Spinning Plates Situation & The "TOO BIG TO FAIL" Question
#LiegeOfGames #boardgames
Are any board game companies "too big too fail?" I'm going to take a look at 4 of the larger companies utilizing crowdfunding, their outstanding projects at this current time, and figure out how much money has been spent and where you'd be at if something happened to them. One pledge in the hundreds? No biggie right? What if you had multiple, all with the same company? Are you often aware of how much money you have tied up with one company at a single time right now?
Let's take a hypothetical: what if any of the one of the major companies failed or went out of business? What if they ran into trouble like we've seen with previous "Everything is Fine" companies like Mythic and Peterson games. How much would you be on the fence for potentially losing $$ wise?
Is that something you're willing to risk? Like portfolios and stocks and the such, should you diversify just in case? Or just hope that you back the right (or maybe just not the wrong) horse in this case?
This leads me to the point of are you spending too much on crowdfunding. Or equally, are the amounts that you're pledging on individual games for especially these large deluxe projects becoming too much in general?
How much is the average pledge level nowadays (OFTEN NOT EVEN INCLUDING Pledge Manager buys OR SHIPPING)? Taking a look at 4 companies and talking about the values comparatively between their projects as well as how many spinning plates each of them has at the same time.
