Intense Turn Based Tactics RPG Time Continues! – Gordian Quest – #02
Gordian Quest is an Indie, Turn Based Tactics RPG that combines a good campaign, with a Roguelite
Procedural Generation mode, and tosses in a side PvP mode as well!
Gordian Quest is like getting two games for the price of one, as you get a nice turn-based tactics RPG card game single player campaign, with fun deckbuilding that feels very influenced by Slay The Spire, plus with a 3 person party, plus with a dynamic movement and battle system, plus the Roguelike mode that offers Procedural Generation of the map, Permadeath, and Meta Progression to amass.
Gordian Quest is so good!
Gordian Quest Gameplay:
Gordian Quest allows you to pick which ever character you want at the start; no requirement to play with the starting character to unlock others, and no being forced to plays character you don’t want; good!
10 classes to pick at the start, each with 4 subclass options, which start with a different deck, and different stats; good!
After each battle you gain exp, you get rewards, and get to spend 1 skill point on the heroes’ skill grid, and you can unlock new skill grids as you lvl, selecting one of three and snapping them into place where you want it; it’s unique and interesting.
There is a Slay the Spire influence, with the pick your path through the lvls to progress here, and the three AP system, but it also combines a bit of lane battling, with the heroes able to move and completely evade enemy attacks if they pay attention.
There are also curses that can trigger off events, debuffing you for a time, lasting either a set number of turns, or the entire next battle, as well as blessing to find for the next battle as well.
The Campaign:
The campaign mode is good.
There are five difficulty modes here, along with two optional versions of permadeath, with 1 that disallows raising fallen companions.
When your party is killed in the campaign mode, by default you respawn back in town low on hp with all your loot and gear; so no lost progress.
Roguelite Realm Mode:
In The Realm Roguelite Mode, you pick your party of three heroes, and then pick from one of three zones at the start; if you make it to the boss, you get a boon, pick one of three, than pick one of the three next zones to fight through it: the Rule of Three Rules Here!
Unlike in the Campaign mode above, you don’t have a safe city to return to if you need supplies or rest, In the PermaDeath Realm mode, you cannot go backwards, only forward brave heroes!
In this Realm Roguelite Mode, the Meta Progression is Renown, which is used to buy powerful gear from found merchants in the runs, and unlock Artifacts, which grant powerful Meta Progression power! And these can be upgraded for even more renown!
The within run currency is gold, used to purchase gear and supplies for located merchants, and fate you can find to reroll bad event; handy.
So, if an Indie, Turn-Based Tactics RPG Deckbuilder with an optional awesome and engaging Perma Death Roguelite mode interests you, check out Gordian Quest, and enjoy the feeling of getting and playing two great games in one!
