expanded thoughts:

while the main gameplay isn't super complex, it really doesn't have to be. the investigations are really fun (though sometimes it can feel a little confusing if you can't find a tiny piece of evidence or something). the trials are a little less interactive overall, but the cross examinations are super fun and and help bring up the immersion.

i really like phoenix and maya as characters. phoenix doesn't feel like a bland self-insert, you're playing as a lawyer with a lot of personality and pizzazz, it's great. maya is also a treat, and her and phoenix feel like they genuinely bond through the cases. speaking of the cases, most of them are excellent.

first case: just an intro. nothing wild. teaches you how the controls work and how to play, and the story is as simple as it gets.

second case: the first real case. while some of the characters feel a little underdeveloped at this stage, it's still an excellent intro to the world and the characters.

third case: this one's a little weird. while some of the characters are odd, it's not unbearable or anything. there's also the one time gumshoe is actually useful, that's fun lol

fourth case: super SUPER good. fleshes out edgeworth as a character, adds more depth to the world, super great case. the ending does feel a little abrupt, though. not a huge flaw but i gotta think of something

fifth case: my favorite case in the game. super long, very dramatic, great new characters, and an ending that ties everything together in the best way possible.

this game is great and a must-play for anyone. excellent cases, great characters, and while the gameplay isn't anything to freak out over, it's still a fun enough experience in that respect. super good.
