expanded thoughts:

a lot of the gameplay mechanics are super fun. the progression near the start of the game is great, with the new extra powers continually getting added throughout. once you get to the 16-bit section the game gets a little more confusing and instructions get a little more obtuse, which doesn't work for me. the wall jump is also oddly sticky, which i still don't get lol

i really like a lot of the bosses as well. especially the moth boss, that one is super fucking cool. the fake ending is also really fun lol, this game has a great sense of humor

man... i wish there was a little more on the story. it just kinda comes in and smacks you in the face after the end of the 8-bit portion, and then at the end of the game. it doesn't really feel like i know much of what's going on for most of the game. it doesn't ruin the game or anything, but it is kinda unsatisfying to have the game explain to you what's going on at like 3 points throughout the game and get no other story details through the rest.

music and art are both good. nothing spectacular, but fun and fitting of the game. i really like a lot of the colors, the bombastic and popping colors contrast with the pixel art and make this mix of modern and retro that fits the game perfectly.

yeah, it's good. there are some issues throughout but nothing like "game ruining".
