Time attack of X Zone in Sonic Advance, with Tails, in 0:45:47, on normal mode - because this stage isn't available on Time Attack mode.

The last boss Egg-X is random, but can be manipulated. A soft reset sets the RNG seed to 0. The default pattern with no extra RN burns is the medium hand pattern as long as you don't jump for the hits too early - this is enough for 5-6 hits in a row on easy mode (great for 100% speedruns!), but not enough for normal mode. Player actions that produce small dust clouds (e.g. skidding, Knuckles gliding into the floor, Amy's faceplant - but NOT spindashing) all affect the RNG - the length of the input held for the skid does increase/decrease the RNs burned, though it's not frame perfect. The bosses blowing up also burn RNs, though it doesn't matter since that's always the same.

So to get the best pattern:
1. Soft reset and select X Zone in level select. DO NOT burn RNs unnecessarily anywhere.
2. After defeating Egg Drillster, but before engaging the final boss, do one short skid (tap the opposite direction) and one hold-skid (hold the opposite direction) in either order.
3. Finally, while the final boss rotates, make sure I time my jump AFTER the laser cannon passes (NOT before - this affects the ai). This will often get the perfect 8-hit pattern. This means I could focus more on optimizing the movement rather than just grinding for what's normally a really small chance.

0:04 - Hopping on this platform scrolls the screen up earlier, skipping some waiting for the first boss to spawn.

0:35 - Same here. But I also don't want to scroll it too high or else the game has to scroll down to spawn the final boss.
