One evening, Hugh Tazmanian Devil regales his three offspring – Taz, Molly, and Jake – with a captivating tale of colossal seabirds that laid eggs large enough to feed a Tazmanian devil family for a year. Legends hint at a Lost Valley on Tasmania, where these giant seabirds may still nest. Intrigued by the prospect of a massive omelet, Taz embarks on a quest to locate one of these gigantic eggs, and players must guide him through diverse stages in pursuit of the Lost Valley and its Giant Bird.
Gameplay in the Mega Drive/Genesis rendition places players in control of Taz as he scours the landscape for the colossal egg. Taz possesses the ability to jump, transform into a tornado, and devour various objects. Transforming into a tornado allows Taz to vanquish most adversaries, gain added jumping distance, deflect items, and navigate certain obstacles unscathed.
Taz can devour most items encountered throughout the levels, including items that restore health, grant extra lives and continues. Consumption of chili peppers enables Taz to breathe fire to overcome stronger foes, while devouring a star bestows temporary invincibility. Additionally, other items like bombs and weed killer can be hurled at adversaries, although they will harm Taz if ingested.
