The House Of The Dead - All Bosses Arcade & SEGA Saturn with split screen comparison [4K60]
24Full on boss battle / boss rush / all bosses video for Halloween, that shows all the bosses first from the Model 2 Arcade version, then after that we show the SEGA Saturn version. Finally we have a short split screen / side by side showcase as a direct comparison that is rather shocking for all the wrong reasons! Warning, this video contains heavy flashing and is not recommend for people with photosensitive disorders.
So get ready for a Arcade VS. Saturn face off, note during the side by side section only the arcade audio is played to avoid the audio clashing. Now some of you might be wondering what's changed other than just the resolution quality of textures and the number of polygons. If you take a closer look and slow the video down you can see a huge number of changes:
Chariot: most of the strap over his upper body are missing, shadow is missing, his left eye can no longer be seen behind the gas mask glass. The textures on the gas mask are wrong around the top of the vent section. Cobwebs are missing from the room, textures in the room are wrong and the broken ceiling glass sections don't match the arcade.
Hangedman: moon is smaller and the texture for it is incorrectly flipped, armour on him is also incorrectly flipped, his ears are missing, the clouds don't move in the background like the arcade. Upper wall is missing the arch texture and the roof is shorter, courtyard only has green grass and not green and dry grass seen in the arcade.
Hermit: mouth tentacles are missing, room is very different and missing parts of it, such as the railings. Textures in the tunnel are very wrong. No lights pulses in the tunnel and the lighting is wrong in the section phase.
Magicians: red scar on face is just black, weak points don't glow red, missing the red movement shadows as he nears the end of the first phase, texture inside the flaming balls that rain down on you in phase 2 is missing. Background colours are wrong it's supposed to look like sunrise, mountain rocks are missing. Crest over door is missing. Magician is slower during some attacks than his arcade version.
Other Saturn notes Rogan is missing his coat and Curien's outfit colours are very wrong. Life torch has the handle removed.

The arcade version of The House of the Dead has never been directly released on a home system. The home port on SEGA Saturn was put together in a couple of months and looked somewhat unfinished compared to the Saturn ports of Virtua Cop 1 & 2. With missing textures and content, that resulted in a version vastly inferior to the SEGA Model 2 arcade. As the PC port s based on the Saturn version it suffers with the same problems as the Saturn version.
