GAME REVIEW IN DESCRIPTION

This is Three Wonders, a game developed by Capcom for their original arcade system. The game itself contains three games (hence the three wonders name), Midnight Wanderers, Chariot and Don't Pull.

Midnight Wanderers

This is a platform shooter game which can be played single player or cooperatively and revolves around Lou and his friend Siva questing for the legendary Chariot of Light which has been stolen by the demon Gaia. This has turned the population of Ashtar into wooden statues. Lou and Siva will encounter many enemies who will try to stop them on their way to retrieving the chariot.

The levels are really vibrant and there is a lot of variety between the different levels including a forest, cave and up in the Clouds. The fine detail extends to each of the enemies and is a big plus for the game. Even the bosses, which can take up most of the screen, are created with lots of finesse and each one does look menacing.

Level one provides the play with a modest challenge and gives the player a chance to get used to the controls but as soon as they meet the first level boss the difficulty starts to ramp up exponentially. To the point where there can be an overwhelming amount of enemies on screen whilst trying to attempt the different platform sections.
Of course this is the arcade's tactic to kill the player off to get them to put more coins in the machine. However, I couldn't imagine that there are many people who could afford to play through the whole of this game in the arcades.
Playing through the game can be a frustrating experience at times but there is enough variety throughout the five levels to keep the player interested.

The game provides some good soundtracks that play in the background whilst playing and changes to an upbeat battle music during the boss fights. The sound effects are simple and don't vary too much but they get the job done.

Overall Midnight Wanderers is a charming platformer and could be a short but sweet game if the difficulty doesn't overwhelm the player.

Chariot

This is your typical shoot em up game where the players control either Lou and Siva again and once again can be played single player or cooperatively. The story takes place after Midnight Wanderers and sees the adventurer flying on their chariots trying to rescue the princess of Ashtar who was kidnapped by Lar.

Once again the graphics are impressive although a lot of the enemies are taking from the Midnight Wanderers game. The level are again very varied as the heroes make their way up through the sky to complete the mission. One outstanding aspect of the graphics are the bosses who look more impressive than the previous game and take a stylized form of many astrology symbols.

The difficulty can be overwhelming again, probably more so than Midnight Wanderers. There was a particularly cruel moment where the player is bombarded by comets from all directions. Although the bosses look amazing their attacks were mostly limited to the same fireballs and lasers throughout each level and the final boss I did find to be slightly uninspiring especially considering the grandiose appearance of the other bosses.

Overall Chariot is a pretty shoot em up but the gameplay lacks real variety and the difficulty will turn most players off. The cooperative mode will make things slightly easier (at the cost of more money)

Don't Pull

This is a puzzle game where the player is placed in a level full of blocks and enemies. Then, the player must push the blocks into the enemies, squishing them in the process. Once the player has removed all the enemies then the level is completed.
The game can be played single player or cooperatively again and the players can control either Don or Pull.

The game has cute cartoony graphics unlike the other two games and has a few enemies, namely a blob, fire-breathing dragon and a fireball which sometimes roam around the outside edge of the level.

The levels again get progressively harder as the player goes through, and as the enemies get faster it can be easy to get surrounded.
Accompanying the levels are some pleasant music tracks which go well with the theme of the game.

Overall Don't Pull looks like the weaker of the three games but there is a challenge waiting for any puzzle game fans.
