X-COM: UFO Defense playthrough Part 4
I don't have a problem with difficult. There have been some games that have been too difficult for me to really finish, and in particular, some extra challenge stuff that I have just been physically unable to complete no matter how much practice. But I don't like cheap. And today, X-COM went cheap. Hiding enemies behind doors and corridors that, as soon as my character stepped into view - which you HAVE to walk through the door to open it - it put me in range of a counter attack, which killed my people. And it did that over, and over and over. Even one at the end of the corridor, when I specifically didn't click to go into the corridor, he walked forward and died. However, when I set up the ambushes, the same alien walked in, and killed my people before I could fire.
That's cheap. That's unfair. Putting an alien that will kill you constantly before you can get in range is not fun. Having aliens that will counter you, but no way for you to counter them is not fun. Having the game tell me that I cannot shoot the alien LITERALLY IN THE NEXT SQUARE is not fun.
I'd been enjoying X-COM. But that let me down. A lot. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
