An Indie HoMM + Civ 5 with Random Maps? Yep! – Mystical Conquests Demo –
Mystical Conquests is an Indie, Open World, Randomized, Turn Based Tactics 4X Strategy that meshes Heroes of Might and Magic 3 with Civilization 5, and sees what comes out.
Something good came out.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 + Civ 5?
Think Old School Heroes of Might and Magic 3, where you march your party around the world map, fighting monsters, scoring treasure, and lvling up your heroes, combined with the city, territory, and people management of Civilization 5. That is Mystical Conquests.
Plus, it has Procedural Generation of the map, helping to insure each playthrough feels fresh, and is presented in a Pixel Graphics style that means it should run on nearly anything.
Mystical Conquests is good, and well worth a look.
Not a HOMM Clone!
You don’t claim resource locations like in HOMM or Hero’s Hour; you have to build over then with a nearby city here, like in Civ 5.
Just raising a flag and bossing the people around isn’t enough here; I guess the people of Mystical Conquests are made of sterner stuff, or that this land is just much less developed and populated, so you have to actually build the structures yourself first.
People Are The Main Resource Here!
Yes, you have gold, and wood, and stone, and mana, and metal, but it is the people that truly fuel your power, as you need them to build your buildings, work your fields, and train and become your soldiers.
That’s right, in Mystical Conquests, the economy and warfare are directly linked; if you have a unit on the field, they are not working theirs!
This additionally adds real weight to every loss, as replacing your people is very slow, as you have to find more on the map willing to join you.
Note: This is an early look at the demo for Mystical Conquests, so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Mystical Conquests is a fun Open World, Turn-Based Strategy that should really appeal to those who like HOMM and Civ 5, and is easily worth a wishlist and a watch.
