AHOY YOUTUBE! Pirate Captain Jeff here, at your disservice. I was called in today to review Skull and Bones! I paid extra for the early access Premium Edition, so I got to see how this game plays before everyone got to enjoy it.
You play as a sailor working for pirates, and after surviving a shipwreck, you decide you are going to become the most notorious pirate who ever lived. The game feels like a balance between Assassin's Creed Four Black Flag, and Sid Meier's Pirates! It also has other factors, like being a merchant, so maybe some of Assassin's Creed Three?
The gameplay is sailing, combat, and exploration, with customization options for you and your ship. You have to complete missions and explore to unlock equipment to improve yourself. It takes place in the late 1690s and in the Indian Ocean.
Overall, the game is fun... but in an effort to make it available online for all to play, as it is a multiplayer game, some of the good things from its predecessor are gone. You can't control the shanties, you can't leave your ship whenever you like, there is no gunplay and or swordplay, and you can't board other ships for combat, you just get a button prompt to do the action then then get an obscured video showing the post victory results.
I will recommend this game with a score of 8.5 out of 10.
