Previously, in the 1984 Soviet Campaign of Cold Waters... We managed to dodge a Knox-class NATO frigate in my Victor I.

Welcome to Captain Chang Plays (CCP) Cold Waters. We are playing the 1984 Soviet Campaign, at a slightly lower difficulty level of "casual".

NOTE: This duel is quite long, and I can't find any place to speed the whole thing up.

27-JUL-1984 Near Lofoten Islands, Norway

We were ordered to block Andoya from a NATO sub carrying a commando team, probably one of their SEAL teams, or it could be the British SBS team.

We parked our boat in shallow waters just west of the Lofoten islands and were looking for underwaters contacts when we got one.

We submerged, but there was nothing. We waited patiently, as often NATO brings out the older diesel boats for these, and soon we got a signal... A British Oberon class. The question basically is, at what range should I engage.

We went ultra quiet and even slowed to 3 kt for it to come closer. We have 7 torpedoes for antisub.

We fired 2 to bracket her moves at 4 km. Unfortunately, she reacted a bit too quickly. I followed up with a third torpedo, then a decoy to block her counter fired torpedos. We kept trading torpedoes at long range, until I am left with just one single SET-66M torpedo. I must get closer.

I managed to get inside of 2 km, and used up my 2nd to last decoy (1 remaining) when I finally fired the last fish, and this one picked up the enemy sub and gave chase, which actually brought the torpedo back towards me, as I got a bit too close, but it didn't track me at all as I was hugging the bottom, literally 1 meter away (I'm at 291, sea floor is 292m). Still the Oberon managed to dodge the torpedo time and time again, until finally it missed a noisemaker drop and it was sunk. I may have run him out of decoys earlier.

HQ was pleased. We got orders to report back to Murmansk, as we've fired all 7 anti-sub torpedoes.
