Highlight: Warframe (PS4) - Sortie with Caliban - First Impressions
1Right after I ranked him and had a general idea about he frame, I jumped into Sortie of course :P. What better way to test out than in actual mission. Sortie is good start, later I did some steel path as well. Besides that I put reactor on him and nothing extra. First impressions unfortunately aren't pretty. His 1 is pretty crappy and useless - unless maybe you fight enemies around lvl 40-50-ish. IT NEEDS TO ACTUALLY KILL STUFF DE :). It's suppose to be your finisher with all the other debuffs and minions helping you out. Well it isn't. It's a complete joke - and on steel path more of a death sentence. Also nothing seems to be learned from Revenant's similar attack. We need the jump button to be active while spinning - at least jumping up or double jump... The teleport option doesn't help because of level design obstructions everywhere... The 2nd ability funnily enough makes you jump once :D... so alternative I guess if you have energy... As for the 2nd, I discovered it ragdolls (puts in zero G) enemies and they fly away from you. That actually helps them and hurts you because they get a great surround on you after effects wears-off. On theory it should be crowd control and strip armor. I'd love to see this ability actually attracting enemies towards you instead. Plus it travels slow :(. If you try to combo it with your 4th you end up getting nothing. Actual ingame tip that doesn't work. 4th gathers enemies and weakens them even more, game tells you that if you cast 2 and then 4 that be great - it is not. It does't group enemies... and they are already all over the place :D. His 3rd - you guessed it doesn't kill or do damage to enemies. You know, for an enemy you see on steel path or railjack missions, and witness the power of it - they do shit ton of minuscule damage :D. The deadly and powerful sentients... Luckily they at least have use! I should say happily - because I was getting worried at this point that Caliban is full with completely useless kit. Well Sentient bots/friends/allies can tank very well - that includes steel path. They also give you shields and over-shields - again turned out to be surprisingly good even on steel path :). Outside of those roles, they might kill a high level enemy after a minute (a weakling that got debuff) :(. You can have 3 sentient companions. I'd love if they were not focusing all one target that often and if they teleported with you in front - it happens when you cast them and move out of area. Overall 50-50 on the ability. With some adjustments it will be great. His last 4th is the one that does most of the heavy lifting due to the trait of having the option to strip enemy 100% of enemy armour! Now that's great in itself if you have a weapon to use. Caliban itself can't finish enemy enemy with just his abilities - mostly because his 1 is complete garbage. Either way this cool looking beam can group up/clump enemies beside weakening them. Negatives on the ability is that - it doesn't kill (enemies above 40-50). It's stuns you in place for good 3-4 seconds (it needs invulnerability). It also - yet another ability - get obstructed by every little edge and obstacle on tilesets.... Please allow it to go through objects/bodies and what not - infinite punch through or whatever term you use! It desperately needs it. On top of that - seriously - what the hell is going on with yet another ability with the last 4 (already) very disappointing warframes that hits so badly vertically - in this can even horizontally??? Overall though its his best ability :(, even in shambles like that. I sincerely believe that release like those hurt the game. Last 4 warframes are littered with issues and in need of quality of life, buff and sometime design changes on their kits and how ability works. That's a whole year of new warframe releases... That major selling point of the game - Warframes - don't deserve this. Xaku at least got better, Protea before that was amazing.
