Guilty Gear -Strive- (2021, PS4) - Story - for the first time
I did end up purchasing the game. I had a lot of fun on the 2 betas before release playing vs other people and wanted to support the developers.
While I might not end up playing online on PS4 - it's just too much things to buy - get console, to play game, but purchase online ps+ to play vs other online, but get all dlcs if you want to be familiar with character and so on and forth.
Overall I enjoyed the story. It looks like we finally (maybe) get some sort of a conclusion :). It's been a long running since 1998, some of the characters needed that. Otherwise it's just about 5 hour long cut-scenes :). Animations are not amazing, there are lot of low res texture here and there. Lack of anti-aliasing and even anisotropic filtering issues (at least on PS4). At times audio is lacking due how sounds effect are integrated and it gives it quite amateure work. Note that these problems are only in the story cut-scenes. In game visuals, character animations, sound and music is top of the top when it comes to fighting games. Voice over is great and making a great english voice over return to boot it all up!
Some characters don't show up unfortunately and overall the pace is relatively slow. It's one of those more "tame" and not as bombastic even for GG type of takes. Would've loved to see some more Giovanna and Nagoriyuki as they were newcomers.
Looking forward to where the game is headed. It's gonna be releasing new characters and add new modes or stories as well for the foreseeable future. How much is gonna be free and paid we will see. Game definitely is a bit bare lacking for Arc System Works standards in terms of content. The Arcade for example doesn't have story and barely some dialogue between 1 or 2 characters. The famous challenge combos that a lot of fighting games include for you to master/struggle through to name a few.
As to online play - it's easily the best out there, trust me, in beta it was amazing! Game is extremely user friendly to new players and a lot of fun to play if you never played a fighting game before. There is good amount of helpful tutorials, albeit not super friendly to new players and can be confusing to learn or remember. Just remember - a lot comes to playing vs other people, then the tutorials will start making more sense. Plus you don't need to memorize and execute each every ounce of knowledge! -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/freebiebg
